Problem: Nonprofit organizations
need
a solid technology for tracking perspective and current donors and
activities, but lack the budget to purchase an expensive but comprehensive
off-the-shelf fundraising database.
Solution:
A product that
resides on most computer desktops today, which already has an established
technology support network, and is easily customized, networked and upgraded.
DonorAccess:A
comprehensive and inexpensive fundraising, event-planning and volunteer-tracking
database for the nonprofit community using Microsoft Access
Why do small nonprofits need
a comprehensive database for fundraising?
-
Fundraising is far more complicated than merely raising money.
The goal of successful fundraising is to establish long-term relationships
with donors, making it easier and less time-consuming to solicit needed
funds and thus allowing the organization to provide the primary service
that is its reason for existence.
-
First, to establish bonds with those solicited, a nonprofit needs
as much information as possible about prospective donors.
-
Next, the nonprofit needs to track the cultivation of prospects
and donors through contacts made, events attended, mailings sent, etc...
-
Finally, there must be a method with which to evaluate the relative
success of specific events, volunteer driven campaigns and mailings.
Why DonorAccess?
Doesn't all good fundraising
software follow a price tag of thousands and even more for yearly maintenance?
Not anymore. We specifically created DonorAccess
as an alternative to the high-priced competition for small nonprofits who
do not have the budget to pay thousands, but still need a complete donor/prospect
tracking database. Since DonorAccess
was created using Microsoft Access, you may already have this on your PC
and will not have to buy a software license as is often the case in the
purchase of a new database.
What if I need help using
this
database?
Although DonorAccess
has product support available, you also have the vast store of technical
support resources available through Microsoft, which come with the purchase
of this MS Office Suite product.
-
Aren't such complicated databases
hard to convert, customize and use?
-
Microsoft makes it extremely easy to convert data, and navigate or manipulate
it's programs, which accounts for their widespread use in the small business
community. The DonorAccess database
can be used with very little technical knowledge, and customized easily
for you. However, so many auto reports and functions are included with
this product, that you may not want to add or customize a thing!

DonorAccess History
-
While working for a nonprofit on a large campaign, the problem became
clear. All prospect research, mailing lists, event planning and budget
information was tracked in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The general fundraising
office of the institution was using a ten year-old database accessible
to only the data processors. Unfortunately there was no budget to buy a
new product, or even to upgrade the current system.
-
A review of the office PC desktops yielded Microsoft Access, a fully
functional database product ready to be used. A new database was created
and the 15,000 fundraising and alumni records were successfully converted.
The new comprehensive database was accessible to all who needed the information.
This project was completed for the cost to upgrade the office server and
a few PCs.
-
While we recognize that the needs of all institutions are not as serious
as the case described above, we at DonorAccess
believe that extensive prospect and donor information tracking leads to
a more likely realization of each donor's full giving potential.
-
In this vein we have developed the DonorAccess
database
with small nonprofit organizations in mind. Anything that a nonprofit might
want to track we have attempted to include. We saw a need for this product
in our professional life, and hopefully you will find it to be just as
useful an addition to yours!
